Story
I didn't cut my screen time. I changed what was on the screen.
Cutting entertainment entirely never held. What held was swapping it — same slot, same comfort, different content.
It doesn't feel like sacrifice, which is exactly why it survives a bad week.
The Code
Code 3 — Remove All Distractions
Code 3 of 7 · Business Brainwash
You don't have a time problem. You have a subtraction problem.
Less is more. Replace entertainment with edutainment. Fewer nights out, more nights in.
- Subtract before you add.
- Trade entertainment for edutainment.
- Protect the hours where the real work actually happens.
Lessons
Four shifts that make this Code real.
Swap, don't delete
Habits resist removal but accept substitution.
Replace the slot, keep the ritual.
Make the good input easy to reach
Whatever is closest wins by default.
Queue it up before the tired hour arrives.
Entertaining teachers exist
Learning does not have to be boring to be real.
Follow the operators who are also good company.
Keep some entertainment
Total austerity rebounds.
Choose it on purpose instead of defaulting to it.
Data
The input you didn't choose is still training you.
Illustrative operator view. Most consumption is defaulted rather than decided — which means whoever designed the feed is doing your curriculum planning.
Illustrative framework — not measured performance.
Strategy
Change the default, not your willpower
Your evening is going to have input in it either way. The only question is whether you chose it in advance or let the feed choose.
Set the queue on Sunday. Then let the tired version of you have something worth pressing play on.
Traction and distraction are the same road, opposite directions.
Queue one thing worth learning before tonight. Put it where the feed usually is.
