Story
The week I started counting was the week the number started moving.
Nothing about my effort changed. What changed was that I wrote it down where I had to look at it.
Counting turns a vague intention into a visible streak — and nobody wants to be the one who breaks their own streak.
The Code
Code 2 — Gamify Your Growth Process
Code 2 of 7 · Business Brainwash
Discipline is fragile. A game you want to win is not.
If it isn't scored, it isn't real. Turn the work into levels, challenges, and rewards you actually want.
- Reward your invested time, not just your wins.
- Create levels. Complete challenges. Spend your tokens.
- Gamify your KPIs — compete with others and with last week's you.
Lessons
Four shifts that make this Code real.
Measured behavior changes
The act of scoring is itself an intervention.
Start counting before you start optimizing.
Score inputs, not just outcomes
Revenue is a lagging number you can't do on Tuesday.
Track the reps that cause the revenue.
One scoreboard, not seven
Too many metrics is the same as none.
Pick three numbers for the quarter. Ignore the rest.
Make it visible or it isn't real
A number in a file you never open is decoration.
Put the scoreboard where you'll see it daily.
Data
The gap between what you think you did and what you did.
Illustrative operator view. Founders consistently estimate their own activity generously — until it's counted. The counting is what closes the gap.
Illustrative framework — not measured performance.
Strategy
Build the smallest scoreboard that would change your week
Three numbers. One place. Updated on a day you already show up. That's the whole system.
It only works if it's honest. A scoreboard you fudge is worse than no scoreboard, because now you trust a lie.
Systems and scoreboards beat motivation every time.
Pick three numbers for this quarter. Write them on one page. Update them every Friday.
